"Maagiya Kaala" wins best Kannada film award

"Maagiya Kaala" has bagged the top honour in the 2010-11 state film awards list released here today.

The best film for that year was produced by Bhagya Chinnaswami and directed by K Shivarudraiah, both of whom would each carry home Rs 1 lakh in cash, a 50-gm gold medal and a plaque.

Awards in various categories were finalised by a committee headed by S K Bhagawan. Information Minister Santosh Lad told reporters that the awards would be given away at a function next month.

"Thamassu" was the second best film, while "Manasa" came third.

Punit Rajkumar bagged the best actor award for his performance in "Jackie", while Ramya was adjudged the best actress for her role in "Sanju weds Geeta".
 

Director Bhargava won the Puttanna Kanagal award for life time achievement for his outstanding contribution to the Kannada films industry, while S Shivaram bagged the Rajkumar award for his immense role in its growth.

Vishnuvardhan award for life-time achievement in different spheres of Kannada film world for senior figure went to Ambarish, who is currently Karnataka Housing Minister.
