The Madhya Pradesh High Court today upheld the life imprisonment awarded by a lower court 11 years ago to a man for attacking a minor girl's private parts with a knife and then raping her.

The sentence was ratified by a division bench of Justice S K Seth and Justice P K Jaiswal.

The lifer was awarded by a trial court in Mhow town to Hukum Singh (59) on April 7, 2003 under Section 376 (2)(F) for raping a girl who is under 12 years and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 35,000 against him, government pleader Raghvendra Singh Bais told reporters.

Hukum Singh had injured and raped a five-year-old on September 24, 2002, after abducting her, when she was playing in front of her house.
