Maha official gets 3 years in jail in Rs 5 lakh bribery case

A special court Monday sentenced

an assistant charity commissioner to three years in jail for taking a bribe of Rs 5 lakh to pass a favourable order over a disputed piece of land.

Ani lHimmatrao Shingne (55) was found guilty under the Prevention of Corruption Act and sentenced to three years in jail and a fine of Rs 1,000 was imposed on him by special judge (Anti-Corruption Bureau) S J Biyani.

Shingne was posted as assistant charity commissioner, Pune between 2006 to 2009, during which time he demanded a bribe from the complaint in return for protecting 11 acres of her land at Maval.

 

He demanded a bribe of Rs 5 crore from the complainant which was later brought down to Rs 50 lakh.

The complainant approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau which laid a trap and caught Shingne while accepting the first instalment of Rs 5 lakh.

A case was registered against Shingne on December 30, 2010.
