Maharashtra CM gifts Lord Ganesha idol to Russian PM

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today presented a Ganesha idol to Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev during the ongoing International Industrial Exhibition 'Innoprom' in Ekaterinburg.

Fadnavis is currently on an official visit to Russia.

At the Maharashtra pavilion at Innoprom, Fadnavis apprised Medvedev of investment opportunities in Maharashtra, an official said. The CM presented the Prime Minister a Ganesh idol, he added.

"Very happy to meet and interact with Hon Prime Minister of Russia @MedvedevRussiaE on the sidelines #Innoprom2016," Fadnavis later tweeted.

The CM also met Viktor N Kladov, Director of International Cooperation and Regional Policy, Rostec.

Rostec is Russia's State Corporation for promotion development, production and export of hi-tech products for civil and defence sector.

Meanwhile at a summit on land use and allied nuances

of development organised by Economic Times this evening here, Fadnavis said though urbanisation in India is 40 per cent, percentage in states like Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu have already reached upto 50.

Earlier governments never did systematic planning for urbanisation. We have miserably failed in making urbanisation sustainable, said the Chief Minister.

For managing urbanisation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi started 'Smart City' mission. 65 per cent GDP comes from cities. They are the growth engines, he added.

Mumbai generates lot of sewage water and not a single drop is processed, Fadnavis said, adding his government is working on the same.

He also spoke on efforts for improving public transport, efficient use of land resources, approval to development plans and the coastal road.
