Chhatradhar Mahato, former convener and spokesman of People's Committee Against Police Atrocities (PCPA), was today granted parole by a local court following his father's death.
Mahato was lodged in Alipore Central Jail in Kolkata. He has been in jail since September 27, 2009 as cases have been lodged against him under IPC and Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
ACJM-II Ayan Mazumdar of Jhargram court granted him parole after Mahato's lawyer appealed to the court today.

Mahato's father Ashutosh Mahato died last night due to old-age related ailments at their home at Amlia village in Lalgarh police station.
The court granted permission to Mahato to attend his father's funeral and the local police have also been asked to provide him security.
In 2011, he was granted a parole to attend the funeral of his brother Sashadhar Mahato who died in an encounter with joint security forces.
