Maheshwar bypoll becomes a prestige issue for BJP and Congress

The June 12 bypoll is necessitated after elevation of sitting Congress MLA Vijay Laxmi Sadho to Rajya Sabha.

Maheshwar has traditionally been a stronghold of the Congress and BJP faces a tough task in wresting it from the opposition party.

Congress will try to corner BJP by raising issues being faced by farmers in the district.

Maheshwar is a reserved seat for Scheduled Castes and Sadho had won it in 2008 by a narrow margin of 673 votes.
