Mamata slams Centre's "vendetta politics"

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Bannerjee today said the Centre was indulging in "vendetta politics" to deter the state government from raising its voice against the latter's bad policies.

"Whenever we protest against the Centre's anti-people policies like demonetisation, it tries to cow down us with threat of arrest. This is nothing but vendetta politics," Banerjee said.

This vendetta politics also comes in the way of doing good work for the people, she said, asserting that the Centre will not be able to succeed in its design.

"The canards or a misinformation campaign will not be able to prevent us from taking up developmental works," said Banerjee while inaugurating a hostel for 400 girls at Behala in South Kolkota.
 

Daring the Centre to "disturb" her government or "arrest" her leaders, she thundered, "If you have the guts, arrest all of us. Nothing will deter us from raising our voice against misdeeds by the Centre including demonetisation."

Alleging that her party was being targeted for criticising the Prime Minister Narednra Modi's demonetisation move, Banerjee said she can never be silenced by fear-mongering as the state and the entire nation had to pay the price for the ill-conceived decision to scrap high value notes last year.

Lauding the private sectors' initiative for welfare steps like building girls' hostels, she welcomed similar ventures "to help the state's growth."

She said her state has recorded 600 per cent growth in infrastructure and that all projects got the clearance without any interference by the ruling party, unlike what happened during the Left Front regime.

"The major transport problems will be over with the completion of the Metro Railway projects in the state, which I had initiated during my tenure as the railway minister," Banerjee said.
