Man booked for encashing stolen cheque in fake account

A man here today was booked on charges of stealing a cheque and encashing Rs 7.73 lakh in a fake bank account, police said.

The accused, identified as Darmesh Kumar Gupta, allegedly opened a fake savings bank account in the name of complainant Nirmaljot Singh by using his identity proof, they said.

He then purportedly deposited a cheque stolen from Singh and encashed it later, police said.

The accused was booked under relevant sections of the IPC and hunt was on to nab him, they added.
