A man was sentenced to three years imprisonment by a local court after he was found guilty of torturing his wife for dowry.
Sunil Kumar (35) from Jani area in Meerut was convicted by additional district sessions court judge Satish Kumar Sharma, after investigations on the basis of a complaint filed by Sunil's wife Ritu (30).
According to the complaint, Ritu was tortured by her in-laws and her husband even tried to strangle her for dowry.
A fine of Rs 1,500 was also imposed on the convict while his mother and two sisters were acquitted by the court due to lack of evidence.
