A man allegedly killed his mother, wife and younger daughter at his house in Balapur area on the city outskirts early today reportedly over a property dispute, police said.

The incident occurred in Sai Nagar colony when S Rami Reddy, who is in his 40s and working as a contractor, attacked his 65-year-old mother, 35-year-old wife and 14-year-old daughter in their sleep with a knife and slit their throats besides attacking his elder daughter who managed to escape and hid herself in a bathroom, a senior police officer said.

"The trio were killed on the spot. The accused seems to be mentally unstable. Rami Reddy's brother Govind who was staying on the first floor of their house rushed to scene after hearing cries and tried to catch hold of him. However, Rami Reddy fled away and jumped into an agricultural well," DCP (Shamshabad Zone) A R Srinivas said.

Police rescued Rami Reddy from the well with the help of some locals and was taken into custody, the DCP said, adding a case of murder has been booked.

Another police officer, who was investigating the case, based on preliminary information said Rami Reddy had been pressuring his parents to divide the property and give his share. "Around eight months ago, Rami Reddy had attempted suicide over the issue," the officer said.

Further investigations were on.
