A man was arrested today for allegedly duping a businessman of Rs 20 crore on the pretext of selling him land in prime areas of Jorbagh and Mayfair Garden which actually were government properties, police said today.

Pawan Solanki (38) was arrested by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch after it received a complaint from the victim Ajay Chaudhary.

Chaudhary, a resident of Vasant Kunj, had entered into an agreement worth Rs 20 crore with Solanki and his accomplices after they showed him documents of properties located in Jorbagh and Mayfair area, police said.

"In the absence of any construction on the site, complainant fell into the trap believing the forged documents are genuine," said Deputy Additional Commissioner of Police (EOW) Harendra Singh.

"However, our investigations revealed that the Jorbagh property belonged to the government and was in possession of the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

"The second property at Mayfair Garden, which was also sold to the complainant, was alloted to somebody else by DDA after cancelling the allotment to the first owner," Singh said.

Solanki had also forged documents of the second land and projected as if the land was restored to the first allottee, police said.

During interrogation, Solanki confessed to his crime and also disclosed the names of his other accomplices.

Meanwhile, efforts are being initiated to nab them while Solanki has been remanded to judicial custody, the top cop added.
