Man held with gold worth Rs 34 lakh at IGIA

A man has been arrested at Indira Gandhi International Airport here for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country gold bars valued at about Rs 34 lakh.

The 32-year-old accused was intercepted by customs officials after his arrival from Dubai on Monday. On detailed examination of his baggage and personal search, gold bars and rods weighing 1.4 kg were recovered, a press release issued today by the customs said.

The value of the gold is assessed to be Rs 34.2 lakh. The accused, who hails from Delhi, was arrested and the gold was seized, it said.
