A 26-year-old man allegedly shot at his parents after an argument at a posh residential complex in southwest Delhi's Dwarka subcity today.

"A case of attempt to murder was registered at Dwarka North police station but the accused, identified as Amit, is still at large," said DCP (southwest) R A Sanjeev.

According to the police, Amit's parents Brahm Prakash (49) and Savita Devi (45) had come to his apartment at Platinum Heights complex in Dwarka Sector 18, where Amit lives with his wife and children, around 12.30 AM to discuss some family matter.

Amit knew that his parents would come and stood on the balcony of his first floor apartment to confront them. Once they reached the complex, a fight broke between Amit and his parents over an old family dispute.

The argument continued for a few minutes -- with Brahm Prakash and Sabita Devi on the ground floor and Amit on his balcony -- after which Amit went inside his room and returned with a gun.

Amit allegedly fired several rounds. While two bullets hit his father in the hip and thigh, one hit her mother in the leg. Amit fled the scene by the time other residents gathered around and called up the police control room.

The police rushed the couple to a hospital, from where they were later moved to a private hospital in Gurgaon, and their conditions are now reported to be stable, said a police official.

"Meanwhile, a police team is looking for Amit. The actual motive behind the act could only be ascertained once he is interrogated. Investigation is underway," the official added.
