Maratha-Kunbi rally held

A Maratha-Kunbi rally seeking quota was held here today.

However, police claimed that barely 35,000 people turned up for the morcha as against the claim of two lakh by the organisers.

Marathas have been holding silent marches in various districts to press for demands like punishment to the culprits in Kopardi rape cum murder case, quota in education and jobs, amendment to SC and ST Prevention of Atrocity Act etc.

The organisers had invited people from Kunbi community to participate in the rally. Kunbis belong to OBC category.

The march started from Mhada Colony and culminated at Chanda Club ground.
 

A delegation of five girl students went to the office of District Collector and submitted a memorandum of their demands.

Over 1500 police personnel, including officers, SRPF jawans, were deployed on the occasion.
