Punjab's cooperative society Markfed today reduced the rate of DAP fertiliser by Rs 1,000 per tonne (Rs 50 per bag).

Acting on the directions of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Punjab State Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation Limited (Markfed) has decided to supply quality fertilisers to farmers at affordable prices, an official spokesman said.

With this decision, farmers would get Diammonium phosphate (DAP) fertiliser through their respective cooperative societies at Rs 22,700 per tonne (Rs 1,135 per bag) instead of the existing Rs 23,700 per tonne (Rs 1,185 per bag).

The spokesperson said Markfed has made elaborate arrangements to ensure uninterrupted supply of DAP fertiliser to the cooperative societies so that farmers do not face any inconvenience.

So far, there is no shortage of DAP fertiliser in any cooperative society, the spokesperson added.

Markfed, formed in 1954 with a total capital of Rs 50,000, is today one of the leading cooperative societies with a turnover of more than Rs 12,000 crore per annum.
