Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma Thursday launched Facebooks nationwide 'Boost Your Business' programme in the state aimed at boosting employment opportunities for the educated youths.
The programme is aimed at recognizing the potential of states small business owners and entrepreneurial culture. Facebook has partnered with the Meghalaya Institute of Entrepreneurship and Department of Tourism to digitally train 10,000 people in next one years.
In his inaugural address, the chief minister said, "Our goal is to create digitally inclusive communities with a strong and vibrant economy for the state."
Sangma said that he hope to be able to develop a community that will provide Meghalayas artisans and business owners with global visibility with Facebook's reach and support
"This will be a step forward in encouraging entrepreneurs of the state to drive to grow and contribute to the economy," he said.
Facebook's BoostYourBusiness has been designed to arm Indian businesses with the knowledge, skills and technology required to stay innovative and connect with customers at home and abroad.
Leveraging the event, entrepreneurs from the state shared their success stories and five inspiring entrepreneurs were felicitated besides launching a video on the success of Mathew Sangma, a Tura based entrepreneur who sells honey, green tea and handmade bamboo products on Facebook platform.

Facebook Public Policy Director Ankhi Das elaborated on the success of the micro, small and medium businesses and its importance in Meghalaya.
"The online space has opened up new avenues of doing business. With this programme we will empower local businesses by providing training and resources to build up a digital presence and grow their businesses beyond what the traditional offline economies offer," she said.
She said India is a priority country for Facebook and the Boost Your Business program is a part of companys continued investment in Indian small businesses, developers and the over 217 million Indians who use Facebook monthly.
