Members belonging both to the ruling AINRC and the opposition block today took strong exception during question time in the Assembly to the "delay' in distribution of free house site pattas to the poor families belonging to scheduled castes in the Union Territory.

P Karthikeyan (AINRC) who is chairman of Puducherry Slum Clearance Board tabled the main question and said that Oussudu Assembly constituency that he represents was a reserved segment and had a large number of poor families belonging to Scheduled castes.

"No free house site pattas have been distributed so far", he said expressing concern over the poor predicament of the families because of the delay in implementing the house site patta scheme by the Department of Adi Dravidar Welfare.

The opposition AIADMK member A Anbalagan also complained that the free house site pattas continued to be a distant dream for the scheduled caste families. He also alleged the previous Congress government here was hoodwinking the poor families.

When Anbalagan used a word to allege the 'modalities of acquisition and return of the land' the Speaker V Sabapathy intervened and asked the member to refrain from using 'unparliamentary and highly objectionable words'.

Welfare and Tourism Minister P.Rajavelu assured the members that necessary steps would be taken to distribute the sites to the landless poorer sections. He also referred to the hiccups the government faced now and then. He said that the government would meet the requirements of both the scheduled castes families and also families belonging to other communities without delay.
