Militant killed in shootout in NW Pakistan

A suspected Taliban fighter was shot dead when a group of militants today attacked a police post located near the lawless tribal belt in northwest Pakistan.

Policemen retaliated after militants attacked the check post in Sarband area, located along the boundary between Peshawar district and Khyber tribal region.

During the exchange of fire, one militant was killed while the others fled from the scene. The body of the militant was moved to Khyber Teaching Hospital for autopsy.

Police officials said around 25 militants were involved in the attack.

In a separate incident in Hangu district, unidentified armed men killed a man, his wife and his daughter and set their home on fire.
