Minor girl found murdered in field

A 16-year-old girl was allegedly murdered by unidentified assailants, who slit her throat and dumped her body in a field here, police said today.

The victim's body was found near a mustard field in the village last night, Jani police station in-charge Akhilesh Kumar said, adding a dual-sim cell phone was recovered at the spot.

"Whether the girl was raped can be ascertained after we receive the postmortem report," Kumar said, adding a few boys have been detained in the case.

A search operation was launched after family members informed police that the girl had not returned home last evening after working in a nearby farm, he said.
 

Cases have been registered against unidentified persons, the officer said.
