Minor girl's marriage stopped

The district administration with the help of police today stopped the marriage of a minor girl on the city outskirts.

Based on a petition that a minor girl was being married off, District Collector Archana Patnaik had yesterday directed the police to look into the matter.

Accordingly, senior officials from Perur All Women's Police station rushed to K G Chavadi and conducted inquiry.

It was found that the girl was only 17-years-old, police said.

The officials then held talks with the parents of both the bride and groom and conviced them to stop the wedding ceremony.

They also got an undertaking from both the families, police added.
