Punjab government today said the model code of conduct for the ensuing general polls would have no bearing on continuation of its flagship Atta-Dal scheme.
"This flagship scheme of the state government has been in place since August 2007 and was running smoothly. Since it is an ongoing scheme, the model code of conduct for the ensuing Parliamentary elections would have no bearing on it," Punjab food and civil supplies secretary DS Grewal said.
He said the state government has already allocated Rs 400 crore for its implementation in the current fiscal.
The secretary further said the scheme entailed providing food grains as well as 'Dal' to eligible beneficiaries thereby ensuring a complete meal for them whereas majority of schemes being run by the other states were merely providing grains.
