The Insurance Information Bureau of India (IIB) in association with the Cyberabad police launched a motor vehicles insurance awareness campaign at a function here today, it was officially announced.
The Cyberabad Police Commissionerate and the IIB have identified uninsured vehicles within the Cyberabad Metropolitan Police jurisdiction, an official release said.
The campaign which is scheduled to begin from May 1 onwards would sensitise vehicle owners about the benefits of motor insurance besides making special arrangements to facilitate spot purchase of insurance through around 100 kiosks set up all across the Cyberabad region, the release said.

However, during and after the campaign, vehicle owners may opt to buy insurance through branch offices of any general insurance company or a link on the Cyberabad Traffic Police website, the release said.
The IIB is expected to initiate such campaigns in Delhi, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat, the release said.
Several studies have shown that a number of vehicles plying nationwide are uninsured, the release said.
This poses a grave danger to society as a whole and tremendous agony to accident victims in particular, to receive compensation, the release said.
Third party motor vehicle insurance is compulsory under Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and it is the responsibility of all stakeholders to ensure compliance of the statutory requirement in the interest of all road users, the release said.
