After much delay, the Centre and the Bihar government have decided to sign an agreement to upgrade and give the central agriculture varsity status to the Rajendra Agricultural University (RAU), Pusa.

"Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh will visit the state on January 25 to address the issue. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) in this regard will be signed...," an official statement said.

The MoU will be signed between the central research body Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the Bihar government, it added.

It was in 2009, the Planning Commission had given 'in-principal' nod to the state governments' proposal and an amount of Rs 400 crore was also proposed in this regard for the 12th Five Year Plan (2012-17), the statement said.

However, the university could not be upgraded as the state government had not agreed to sign the agreement with the Centre due to various reasons. Now, the present state government has shown willingness on the issue and finally sign the MoU.
