Madhya Pradesh Congress has demanded that a full-time Governor be appointed in the state so that constitutional decisions are taken within a specific time-frame.

At present, Gujarat Governor Om Prakash Kohli holds the additional charge of Madhya Pradesh. He was given the additional responsibility after Ram Naresh Yadav's tenure ended on September 7 last year.

Leader of opposition in Madhya Pradesh Assembly Ajay Singh today wrote a letter to President Pranab Mukherjee seeking a full-time Governor for the state.

"On June 25, the Election Commission of India (ECI) ordered the disqualification of state public relations minister, Narottam Mishra, for allegedly filing wrong account of his poll expenditure during the 2008 assembly elections in the state," Singh said.

The ECI has forwarded Mishra's case to the governor in accordance to the procedure, but it is pending as there is no full-time governor in Madhya Pradesh.

The delegation of Congress MLAs also tried to meet the governor, he said.

"Since there is no permanent governor in Madhya Pradesh, it has become difficult for the delegation of Congress MLAs to meet the governor," he stated.

Singh said that being the constitutional head of the state, the governor should be available for the people of the state.

The leader of opposition said the Congress also wanted to apprise the governor about the farmers' distress in the state as "61 cultivators have ended their lives in the state in the past 28 days".

"Due to all these reasons, the president should appoint a full time governor in Madhya Pradesh," he said.
