MRPS delegation from Andhra, Telangana calls on Naidu

A delegation from Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana today met Union Parliamentary Affairs M Venkaiah Naidu regarding sub-categorisation of Scheduled Castes into A,B,C and D categories.

According to a statement, the members of the delegation urged Naidu to intervene in implementation of Justice Usha Mehra commission's recommendations regarding the sub-categorisation.

The Commission had earlier recommended insertion of an amendment in Article 341 of the constitution that provides for the sub-categorisation of caste, race or tribe upon receiving a resolution from legislature of a state/UT passed unanimously, the statement said.

The recommendation is pending for cabinet approval to introduce constitutional amendment bill in the Parliament, the statement added.
 

Naidu took the delegation to the Prime Minister and briefed him about the issues pertaining to sub-categorisation of the Scheduled Castes of the two Telugu states, the statement said.

Later, the delegation also met Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Thaawar Chand Gehlot and briefed him about the issue, it added.
