The Thane Unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) opened the new year with a prized catch of a civic clerk from the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC), ACB officials said today evening.
DYSP Jairaj Chapria told PTI here today that the complainant who is a contractor called Sonu Ashok Punjabi approached UMC junior clerk Raja Bhuremal Bhulani with a request to save his structure from being pulled down.
The clerk made a demand of Rs 20,000 from Punjabi to save his structure from being pulled down.

The aggrieved Punjabi approached ACB Thane unit's officials who laid a trap and caught Bhulani accepting the bribe money from the complainant in the UMC office at about 2.20 pm, the ACB said.
The clerk has been charged under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act of 1988, officials probing the case said.
