Singer-actress Demi Lovato says even though she herself struggled with drug addiction, it took long for her to understand than her late father was suffering with the same problem.
The 21-year-old singer's father died in June after suffering from mental health and addiction issues for years, reported Contactmusic.
"I went through an entire life without my birth dad because I assumed that he was a bad guy and never took into consideration, even after I went through my stuff, that he was just ill," Lovato said.
