Nagaland SSA Teachers Association (NSSATA) members today started their nine-day picketing before SDEO and district education offices across the state.
NSSATA in a release said the decision of resorting to a nine-day picket was taken due to the repeated 'failure' of the state government and its implementing agencies to fulfil the demands of the SSA teachers in the state.
The NSSATA members have been agitating against non-release of their pending salaries since November 2013 by the state government.
After a series of agitations which included boycotting of classes, silent processions and sit-in-dharna during the March session of the state Assembly, the NSSATA sought the intervention of Governor Dr Ashwani Kumar, the release said.
It had also given the government 15 days to concede to their demand from April 16, which expired yesterday.
However, angered to learn that the Centre had released the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) fund in the first week of April but the state government was yet to release their pending salaries, the NSSATA launched the nine-day picketing before education offices.
NSSATA lambasted government for its 'step-motherly' treatment towards the plight of SSA teachers and warned of severe agitation to the extent of picketing before the School Education directorate.
"We will peacefully picket the SDEO offices upto 4:00 PM everyday till May 9," NSSATA officials said.
