In order to facilitate the industries located in the Vidarbha region, Maharashtra Government has decided to make Nagpur a parallel power centre.
"Since long we have been getting reports that the small and medium scale industries in Nagpur and Vidarbha region have no power centre there. For every technical work, they have to travel all the way to Mumbai," state Industries Minister Subhash Desai told PTI.
"I met the officials concerned and we have decided to make Nagpur a power centre for the Vidarbha region. Those working in industries will no more have to come here (Mumbai) to take permissions for any technical work," he said.
The minister said the government is committed to provide easy access to industries, which are interested in setting up their base in Maharashtra.
"Presently, 76 different permissions are required to start a business here. Our short-term agenda is to bring it down to 25. We have formed a special committee for this purpose and the results will be out soon. But we are still working on it. Various permutations and combinations need to be tried. We are checking if we can club a set of permissions," the senior Shiv Sena leader said.
He added that the government has already begun taking steps to attract investments in Maharashtra.
"Every industry is required to have a no objection certificate from the fire safety department that ensures safety measures are in place. But, every six months, they had to renew the NOCs. Now, certificates once obtained will suffice. But we have prescribed a set of rules for them which they have to adhere to strictly. Small steps taken by the government can have a big positive impact on industries," he said.
