A Naxalite was killed during an encounter with security forces, in which a policeman was also injured, at Vikrampur village in East Singhbhum district today, a senior police officer said.

A Naxalite, identified as Joru, was killed in the encounter while the bodyguard of Additional Superintendent of Police was injured, police said.

Additional Superintendent of Police Shailendra Burnwal, who led the anti-Naxal combing operation, said three cases were pending against Joru, Burnwal told PTI.

A pistol and five live cartridges were recovered from his possession, he said adding, the injured policeman was taken to the Tata Main Hospital here.

The exchange took place when the security personnel were on their routine patrolling in the Naxalism-affected areas of the Ghatsila sub-division in the district.
