The North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) is set to revive the Mahila Haat, a marketplace built at Asaf Ali Road in the city to encourage women entrepreneurs, with the help of FICCI.

The Haat (marketplace) was built in 2012 above the underground car parking facility at Asaf Ali Road in the city zone of the NDMC.

The Standing Committee of the municipal corporation discussed revival of project in association with FICCI. The Committee members expressed some objections over the project revival suggesting that the 30-year time period for which Mahila Haat is to be handed over to FICCI should be decreased.

Leader of the House, Yogender Chandolia said, "The 30-year time period for which it will be handed over to FICCI is too long and it should be reduced to 7 years."

Committee chairman Mohan Bhardwaj directed the Commissioner to work on suggestions of the members including 7-year time period for which the Mahila Haat will be managed by FICCI.

Mahila Haat comprising 39 stalls of pipes and fancy sheets was constructed for promoting women entrepreneurs in Delhi and those in other parts of the country.

While FICCI will manage the marketing place, NDMC will receive Rs 50,000 from it.

Presently, the project, which was launched with much fanfare, is gathering dust without earning any revenue for the civic body, Chandolia said.
