Nepal Election Commission today stopped the government's effort to transfer a top police official here saying the move, when the code of conduct is in force, may affect the by-elections to be held on June 22.
"As by-elections have been scheduled in four constituencies across Nepal including Kathmandu -2, for next month the move by Home ministry to transfer Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ramesh Kharel may affect the by-elections scheduled on June 22, the move is unacceptable to the Election Commission," said the EC spokesman Bir Bahadur Rai in a statement.
Senior Superintendent of Police Ramesh Kharel earlier was in the headlines after he spoke of the corruptions in the high level ranks of Nepal Police.
