Newly wed woman, lover commit suicide in Punjab

A newly married woman and her lover allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at Aulakh Khurad village in the district.

Manpreet Kaur (22) was married at Thariyewal on September 6 and she had come to her native village Aulakh Khurad yesterday. Her lover Mandip Singh (23) lived near her house, police said.

Both committed suicide by consuming poison, they said.

Police suspect that the extreme step was taken by the duo due to the girl's marriage by her parents against her wishes.

Police are investigating the matter.
