The NH 40 connects lower Assam, Tripura and Mizoram with the rest of the country via Meghalaya's state capital.

"Around 89.7 per cent of the work has been completed," Dhar told the Assembly during question hour.

He said the expected date of completion is June 2015 and at present the government has completed land acquisition at Umsning where initially there was problem in the process.

"The land acquisition process for Umsning Bye Pass has been completed and the land has been handed over to the Jorabad-Shillong Expressway Ltd," Dhar said.

The new road which is about 5 km will not pass via Umsning town in Ri-Bhoi district but through the Bye Pass, the land which was handed over.
