National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to Haryana government over its reported failure to repair a dilapidated water channel which is preventing farmers in a village near Jind from getting water for irrigation.
NHRC has taken suo motu cognisance of media reports that farmers in Nidani village have not been getting water for irrigation as the authorities have failed to repair the said water channel.
No water has flown in the channel in the last three years. The farmers are being forced to use groundwater, which is unfit for irrigation and, as a result, their crop production has gone down, the media reports claimed.
