National Human Rights Commission today directed Maharashtra prison authorities to provide adequate medical treatment to Dr GN Saibaba who was arrested from Delhi by Maharashtra Police for alleged links with Maoists.
According to an NHRC statement issued today, the Commission has issued notices to the Secretary, Prison Administration, Government of Maharashtra and Superintendent, Central Jail, Nagpur with the direction to provide adequate medical treatment to Dr GN Saibaba after taking cognizance of complaints.
Saibaba was picked up by Gadchiroli Police of Maharashtra from Delhi University on May 9 on allegations of having links with the Naxalites.

The Commission has also decided to send an officer from its Investigation Division to Maurice Nagar and Civil Line Police Stations, Delhi to collect copies of records, if any, maintained at the Police Stations at the time of arrest of Dr Saibaba.
"The complainants had alleged that the arrest of Dr. Saibaba was made in violation of the mandatory provisions of Section 41, 41(b), 41(c), 49, 50, 50(a) and 55(a) of CrPC," the statement said.
It is further stated by the complainant that Dr. Saibaba suffers from permanent post-polio paralysis of the legs. He is 90 per cent disabled. He is also heart patient with high blood pressure. Additionally, he suffers from spinal pain. But he was getting no medication in jail and had been put in a solitary cell.
