A delegation of 15 weaving companies of Afghanistan visited Jaipur to learn about the knowledge and processes from their Jaipur counterparts to bolster the Afghan rug industry.

The delegation was being hosted by the US based Amer Rugs Incorporation and its city-based parent company Saraswati Global.

"We learnt about the process involved in carpet making and saw how we can increase our cooperation in trade and industry," Esmat Gulistani, one of the delegates told reporters.

Another delegate, Abdul Satar Bigzada said that if the Afghan weaving companies could manage to learn the art of manufacturing here, it would go a long way in rehabilitating the Afghan carpet industry.

Bigzada said the knowledge sharing programme would be a continuous process between the two countries.

He informed there were one million carpet weavers in Afghanistan and if the carpet industry revived, it would be instrumental in rebuilding the economy of the country.

President of the Amer Rugs Inc, Tanuj Gupta said the company was committed to help the Afghan people develop the best practices and open up the channels of distribution that will allow their industry and economy to recover.

Rob Leahy, an expert for carpets also accompanied the 15- member delegation.
