NIAT & NWWA carry out goodwill services

: Naval Institute of Aeronautical Technology, in association with Naval Wives Welfare Association, Southern Region, carried out goodwill services in the Home for Physically Challenged Women, Thevara and Don Bosco "Sneha Bhavan", Fort Kochi.

The Navy said the services were being carried out in continuation with the many social and welfare activities that it engages in, as part of its community outreach programme, and as a precursor to the 'Navy week Celebrations', 2015.

The team from Southern Naval Command undertook a slew of activities towards improving the existing facilities at the two homes, it said.

Work such as cleaning, maintenance of the area and surroundings as well as painting of fixtures and furniture ensured that the buildings got a much needed facelift.
 

"At the home for Physically Challenged Women,Thevara,Anita Grewal, Vice President NWWA (SR) also gifted a wheelchair, besides personal care kits for the inmates. A medical camp for ENT, dental and skin check up is also being organized for the inmates in early November," Navy said in a release.

At Don Bosco, the services included replacing bathroom doors, provision of vinyl coating for all furniture of dining hall, distempering and colour wash of walls and ceiling of dining hall besides painting of play equipment and fixtures.

"A friendly football match and telegames were conducted where in around 90 children participated. Priyamwada Pandit, Co-ordinator Pragathi, Navy Wives Welfare Association (Southern Region) gave away prizes, sports Items, housekeeping items and personal hygiene kits," the release said.

Don Bosco Sneha Bhavan is a registered charitable society founded in 1974 in cooperation with Kochi Municipal Cooperation to rehabilitate children and youth found on the streets, while the the home for Phisically Challenged Women, Thevara, cares for physically challenged destitute women.

Joe Fernandes, Executive Director, Don Bosco Trust, as well as Asha Sumana, the Superintendent Convenor of Home for Physically Challenged Women expressed heartfelt gratitude to Commodore Sanjeev Dureja, Director, NIAT, and his team for providing the human touch to services conducted.
