Facing a cash crunch, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) is mulling a proposal to have streetlights installed with advertising boards which can bring the civic body revenue of up to Rs 10 crore annually.

"In view of the financial crisis facing the civic body, ways for generating extra revenue are being explored by us," said Bharat Bhushan Madan, chairman of Remunerative Projects (RP) Cell of NDMC.

The civic body has also auctioned 100 unauthorised advertisement unipoles, leading to earnings to the tune of Rs 4 crore, he said.

"The advertisement space on the streetlights will be in the shape of little boards and fetch an annual revenue of Rs 10 crore," Madan said, adding that the civic body will issue licences to advertisers for this purpose.

As per the latest outdoor advertisement policy of the civic body, steps are being taken to provide more and more authorised space to advertisers, he said.
