North Maharashtra University to be named after Bahinabai: CM

Jalgaon-based North Maharashtra University would be named after noted 19th century poetess Bahinabai Chaudhari, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today announced in the Legislative Assembly.

The demand was raised by Eknath Khadse, former minister and the BJP MLA from Muktainagar in Jalgaon while speaking on the Budgetary demands.

Bahinabai, an illiterate cotton farmer from Jalgaon district, composed her songs verbally in ovi metre in a mixture of two dialects: Khandesi and Varhadi. she led a very difficult life because of the economic, social, cultural, and emotional circumstances arising out of widowhood in that period.

Meanwhile, Fadnavis also said a proposal for setting up police commsisionerates in Pimpri Chinchwad near Pune, Kolhapur and Mira Bhayander in Thane district is under consideration of the government.

 

"A decision would be taken after studying the proposal," he said.
