At least one person was killed and 13 others injured today when a bomb went off outside a night club here in the Malaysian capital, with police suspecting a gangland feud behind the explosion.
A car jockey has died in the hospital after the early morning blast outside the Cherry Blossom night club in Bukit Bintang, a popular area with tourists for shopping, dining and nightlife, City CID chief Senior Asst Comm Gan Kong Meng said.
The injured also included two Chinese nationals, two Singaporeans and a Thai national.
City deputy CID chief Asst Comm Khairi Ahrasa said gangsters could have been behind the explosion, believed to be caused by grenades, but police are investigating the case.
"Some of the victims were about to board a Toyota when an explosive device fell onto them from the second floor of a building. The victims were patrons of a pub and residents of nearby hotels," he said.
The case has been classified as attempted murder under the Firearms Act.
Police also recovered a second bomb, which did not explode, under a Toyota Camry which was damaged.
Though, police was suspecting a gangland feud behind the explosion, security experts believe a terror link cannot be ruled out.
Authorities have warned of rise in extremism, saying scores of Malaysians have joined the civil war in Syria and are fighting alongside the Islamic State terror group.
