One person was killed and six others injured as herds of elephant went on a rampage in Assam's Jorhat and Morigaon districts, officials said today.
A 14-year-old boy was killed when a herd of elephant strayed out from Kholahat forest and went on a rampage in Ganesh Valley village under Nellie police station of Morigaon district last night, a senior district official said.
The victim has been identified as Uttam Biswas. Four persons have been killed so far this year in this Assam- Meghalaya elephant corridor.

In another incident, a huge herd of more than hundred elephants wreaked havoc in 20 villages of Majuli, world's largest river island, in Jorhat district injuring six persons, including a woman, an official said.
Five of the injured were admitted at Garmur Hospital in Majuli while the woman has been shifted to Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH).
Upper Assam Conservator of forest Mahendra Duara said that his staff was finding it difficult to chase the jumbo troop which included about 30 calves.
"We are in the process of hiring a Kunki (trained elephants experts to chase or tame animals) from Kaziranga National Park, as they alone can chase herd," he said.
