Accusing Uttar Pradesh's Samajwadi Party government of befooling Muslims, Congress today claimed that mere 43 per cent of the minorities welfare department budget was spent in the last financial year.

"Mere 43 per cent budget of the minorities welfare department was spent while 57 per cent budget was returned and this is the reality of the SP government which claims to be working for their welfare," chairman of Congress' Minorities Department Siraj Mehdi said.

The Congress leader alleged that SP government has forgotten all about the promises made to minorities at the time of election.

Innocent Muslim youths are still languishing in jails and instead of Muslim inspectors, which they had promised to post in each police station, it is the inspectors of a particular caste who have been posted, he charged.

Targetting the Narendra Modi government, Mehdi alleged he has also not fulfilled his promises made in the elections.
