Talk show queen Oprah Winfrey has lost out on the chance to buy the Los Angeles Clippers basketball team, after failing to match Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer's USD 2 billion offer.

The 60-year-old television anchor, who is currently working on 'Selma', her new biopic about Martin Luther King, Lyndon Johnson and the civil rights marches that changed America, was disappointed that the bid did not work out, reported Entertainment Tonight online.

"I was in the middle of these scenes while making the bid, literally the first day I was going to shoot... I had to run upstairs in the building, find a fax machine, we're putting in the bid and I am signing it.

"And I am thinking 'How ironic is that? I am playing a woman who can't get the right to vote, and now you're putting in a bid (to buy a professional sports team)'," she said.

Winfrey's legal advisors informed her it would not be a wise decision for her to buy the team because the price was too high, though the star thought it would be entertaining to own a basketball team.
