As many as 1,209 unauthorised colonies were connected with water pipelines till December 2017, according to the Delhi government's first Outcome Budget
This was against the government's target to provide piped water supply to all authorised and unauthorised colonies and JJ clusters by the end of 2017.
In 2016-17, 1,144 unauthorised colonies were connected with water pipelines.
According the Budget, which was tabled today in the Delhi Assembly, 3,923 km of new water pipeline was laid up to December 2017 compared to 3,703 km in 2016-17 to ensure supply in unauthorised colonies.
To prevent water losses caused through leakages, 2,064 km length of old and defective pipelines were replaced up to December 2017 as against 1,912 km in 2016-17, which led to four MGD of water being saved.
During 2017-18, 38 tube wells were added and 51 tube wells were redeveloped for augmentation of water supply through addition and rehabilitation of tube wells and Ranney wells.
Due to this, 8 MGD of water was extracted additionally.
