Over Rs four crore of six crore seized released:Pondy DEO

As much as Rs 6.02 crore was seized in different locations of Puducherry over the past few days and of this Rs 4.52 crore had been released after submission of relevant documents, District Election Officer P Jawahar today said.

The DEO said 8422 government staff had been enlisted for poll duty and 6008 of these staff had already cast their postal ballots at the facilitation centre opened specifically for these staff. The remaining staff could cast their postal ballots during the next few days.

Around 814 student volunteers would help persons with disability to reach the booths and cast their votes on May 16.
 

Election authorities had already placed 250 wheel chairs for the differently abled persons to help them reach the polling stations.These persons would be brought in cars from their home and would be helped to return home after exercising their franchise, the DEO said.

Distribution of booth slips at the door steps has covered around 94 per cent of the total voters in Puducherry, the DEO added.
