Pak politician, brother killed in bomb blast

A leader of a key opposition party in Pakistan was killed along with his brother when a bomb blast ripped through their vehcile in the restive Balochistan province, according to the police.

Awami National Party (ANP) leader Abdul Razzaq and his brother Abdul Khaliq were on their way to Pishin to attend a public rally when the explosion took place along the Harnai Shahrag road yesterday, a police officer said.

The two were killed on the spot, Harnai deputy commissioner Abdul Salam said.

The ANP has eight members in total in Parliament.

"It was a roadside explosive detonated when their vehicle was passing through the area," he said.
 

In another incident, two people were killed when they stepped on landmines planted on the Chattar area of Nasirabad district last evening.

"Bullock-cart rider Bhagia Khan and a young shepherd, Hadi, stepped on the landmines while passing through the area," a police official said.

In a separate incident, the Lahore-bound Akbar Bugti Express derailed in Mach area of Bolan district when a bomb exploded, the police said.

The bomb was planted near the railway track and six people were injured in the incident, they added.
