Punjab Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) V K Singh today met representatives of different political parties and sought their suggestions regarding polling stations in the state.
"The Election Commission of India has already approved rationalisation of polling stations in Punjab. Detailed physical verification, basic minimum facilities and other aspects required for polling stations have already been carried out," Singh said at the meeting.
To prepare error-free, authenticated electoral roll, Block-level officers have been directed to conduct door-to-door survey from April 4 to May 4 to verify the particulars and photographs of the electors, he said.

Entries corresponding to names of deceased persons, duplicate entries and those who have migrated to other places would be cross checked before deleting those from the roles, the CEO said, adding those who are 18-year-old on January 1, this year would also be enrolled as a voters.
Assembly polls is slated to be held in Punjab next year.
New polling station would be set up if the number of electors is more than 1,200 in rural area and 1,400 in urban area, Singh said.
Suggestions would be discussed to incorporate those in keeping with the guidelines and basic minimum facilities to be provided at the polling stations as per people's needs, he told representatives of, SAD, Congress, Nationalist Congress Party, CPI(M), and BSP who attended the meeting.
Basic minimum facilities like as power connection, ramps, toilet, drinking water, telephone connection etc would be available in polling stations which would be within the polling area, he said.
