Unidentified assailants shot dead a petrol pump manager and looted Rs six lakh at an area under the Sahibabad Police Station, the police said today.

Sonu Sharma (35), a resident of Rahul Vihar Colony, was killed yesterday when he was going to deposit Rs 17 lakh in bank here, Assistant Superintendent of Police Anoop Singh said.

The body was discovered in a car by a farmer this morning, he said, adding that Sharma had bullet wounds in his neck and head.

"The police is also probing why the assailants took only Rs 6 lakh, leaving the remaining Rs 11 lakh in the car. The cash has been seized," the officer said.

The police is also examining CCTV camera footage, he added.
