A third year Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) student of the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) dental college committed suicide by hanging to a fan in the hostel room here, on Tuesday evening.

Krishna Mohan, who is a native of Nandalur in Kadapa district and a third year student in the RIMS dental college, hanged himself from the ceiling fan today evening at about 3 pm and died, the police said.

The police said that he committed suicide due to alleged harassment by professors Lavanya and doctor Kiran.

According to students, Krishna Mohan committed suicide due to unbearable harassment by professor Lavanya and doctor Kiran due to his friendship with a lady medico.

Students staged a sit-in demonstration before the RIMS main gate keeping the dead body at the entrance, and demanded action against professor Lavanya and doctor Kiran.

However, efforts of Kadapa DSP Rajeswara Reddy, circle inspector N Narayana and RIMS director Siddharta Gowrav to pacify the students went in vain, as students continued their protest, demanding action against the alleged culprits.

Meanwhile, the police registered a case and said that an investigation would bring the truth to light.
